Monarch Tagging
Smith Lake Enclosed Shelter (south)

Tagging monarchs helps provide researchers with data to track their geographic range, migration routes and population status. After a brief discussion on the how-to's and challenges facing monarchs, we will venture to the prairie to catch and tag adults as they migrate south to mexico for the winter. This is a great program for families. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This program will be held weather permitting.


Tree Trimming Workshop

Duren Watts, Tree Master at Grass Masters will be on site to teach people the right way to trim a limb and how not to get carried away. Come learn from the master! Call 295-2138 with any questions.


Outdoor Women's Day
Palo Alto Conservation Board--Lost Island Nature Center

Join Emmet, Kossuth and Palo Alto CCB for a full day of outdoor exploration and fun at our annual Outdoor Women's Day. The day will begin by exploring Lost Island by water. There will be kayaks, canoes and paddleboards to experiment with. Hiking and birdwatching will also be an option. Outdoor cooking will take place at lunchtime followed by a presentation by Veronica, the honey Queen from the North Iowa Beekeepers Club. She'll give tips on how to get started beekeeping and also give the oportunity to make a beeswax candle. Space is limited for this program. Please register by September 20 by calling 515-295-2138. Participants must be 18 or older.
