Monarchs and Milkweed: A Seedball Extravaganza
Water's Edge Nature Center
Tuesday, May 9
The Kossuth County Conservation Board is teaming up with Milkweed Matters (a nonprofit group whose mission is to increase the breeding and feeding habitat of Monarch butterflies and their pollinator friends) to bring you the first of many seedballing events.
The RAGBRAI bike ride will be rolling through Algona this July and our goal is to have 7,000 mikweed seedballs ready to hand-out to riders. A seedball is a mixture of soil and clay with a few mikweed seeds pinched in the middle. As the riders pedal across the state they will toss the seedballs into the ditches with hopes of creating essential habitat for the migrating Monarch butterfly. This is your chance to do your part and help our imperiled little butterfly. Please call the nature center at 515-295-2138 by Friday, May 5th at 4:30 p.m. to register for this program as an accurate head count is needed for materials.
